How to choose the first AI process

Most AI programs stall because they start everywhere at once. The companies that get to production start with one process — and pick it well.

A good first process has four traits: enough volume that improvement shows in weeks; a named owner who can decide and act; visible pain people already feel; and enough governance — approvals and audit — to prove why AI must live inside the workflow, not beside it.

Avoid the trap of the “interesting” use case with no owner and no baseline. Pick the boring, high-volume process where you can measure cycle time before and after. Prove the value, then scale by function.
